Well, I guess apart from the part where I had to start my car with a screwdriver and I’m locked out of email due to 6-month password updates, eh, not terrible.

Well, to be fair, the spectacularly Monday-ish thing, which was tearing into my dash to get the starter switch out of the way so I *could* start the car with a screwdriver, was Saturday. Very much contributes to the “why can’t I sleep in” of today, though.

I know. Not really one of the better Bonds, but quality of theme doesn’t necessarily have much to do with quality of movie.

Another Way To Die for Quantum of Solace was slightly naff and uneven, as was the movie, and Chris Cornell’s You Know My Name was an excellent fit for the very good Casino Royale... going back to the older Bonds, though, sometimes there were good themes for kind of not-all-there movies (View to a Kill, Live and Let Die), and a lot of the popcorn-quality Bonds just had kind of okay themes.

Quantum should be viewed entirely as the second act of Casino. I know they released it as a stand alone, but it really only fits when viewed together. I happen to like it, but I also enjoy a slow-burn (no pun intended) and Quantum is not the typical over-the-top Bond where everything explodes all the time.

I also enjoy seeing the progression of Bond as a fatally flawed character fueled by duty and revenge. I am a huge fan of the Craig Bond films. I also hope that they cast Idris Elba next, because he’s a badass and would do the role justice.

I agree. I had quite crappy day at work even compared to my normal crappy Mondays. I’m still having a fly and my butt is still quite sore after my last week’s mishap with my bicycle. So I wanted to have a short day. That didn’t happen.

I was starting our chassis dynamometer after several weeks of pause. It has some unsolved electrical gremlims that causes weird startup problems. For several months it has been starting well but today it decided not to do so. Today’s gremlin wasn’t acting like before and things looked quite bad. How fun it would be to cancel every planned work for a month or two until complete upgrade kit could installed...

After fighting with the device for quite long I finally managed to solve the issue without still figuring out what’s actually causing it. But the important thing is that the system is back in operation. My satisfied feeling didn’t last for long as the next problem was just about to appear.

During our summer break our emission measurement systems were maintained. I remained on our site to make sure that everything was sorted. When our other guys where checking if all things were in order they noticed that one of the devices was nearly “brain dead”. And it’s one of our obsolete devices that the manufacturer doesn’t anymore support. They have exactly one employee how can still fix these but it would take weeks to get him to visit us.

I went investigating the issue. Of course we don’t have proper documentation for the device. We should have but we cannot find it anymore. I tore up some electrical boxes and couldn’t find anything that could be broken. finally I removed big pile of dust from one junction box and checked that there wasn’t any fried connectors. I put things back together and tried to start the device. Rather surprisingly the device was alive again.

My day had been long but i still had one hing to do. I needed to attach one thermocouple to measure the temperature of the test vehicle’s engine. This should be easy I though. I wired the thermocouple and painfully crept under the truck to put it in a suitable place. After eating some dry road dust the thermocouple was firmly placed.

But when I went to confirm which logging channel I had used I notice that is showing around one third of the reading it should be showing. I took another thermocouple and went to replace the “broken” one. More road dust on the face and back to see the readings. Still the same.

I checked the wiring, took third thermocouple and left it laying in front of the truck. I checked that it’s showing realistic values and crept again under the truck to place the third one. This time I insulate the thermocouple just to make sure that this isn’t a grounding issue. Now the thermocouple is showing around half of the realistic value.

Finally I gave up. My butt is hurting badly and I’m too tired to figure this out.

Solved problems - remaining problems: 2 - 1
Found problems - problems not found: 0 - 3

Shortly after writing the post, it became apparent to me that something I had drawn had a serious problem with it that caused several large (read: expensive) pieces of sheet metal to be made wrong. Dashing back and forth, I managed to find a way to fix it with two more pieces and alter something else mid-process to ensure it fit. Very Monday. My younger brother had his “Monday” on Friday, when something he was repairing and testing with a team at his place of work accidentally had 10x designed voltage applied to it and blew up. Much of Saturday was spent by him trying to clear all that up.

Ouch! We should get rid of this useless day of the week. Six days per week should be enough?
